THE 7 new WONDERS of the WORLD

7 New Wonders 日本語で
7 New Wonders in English
7 New Wonders auf deutsch

Cool idea, and probably about time; first, the original 7, though impressive, were very limited in regional scope. 2nd, most of them are now gone. And 3rd, well, why should we limit the pinnacle of all human constructed achievement to only 7? :)

There are some good candidates out there, some interesting ones - bridges, dams, artificial islands... that aren't there, but on the whole it looks like a cool idea, and just from the candidates the world does appear to be much more truly represented.

There're only a few days left. Vote fast!

My votes:
The Great Wall of China (万里の長城)
(for me, this one was totally obvious, like it should have been there all along. Visible from SPACE!)

The others were less easy, and mainly came down to which ones I felt were more impressive to look at, historically significant, or just seemed so unlikely to be built again, even today; which ones made me wonder? After looking at them, did I still think about them, imagine, curiously, feel inspired? If they win, they will, after all, be titled 'wonders of the world'.

Angkor Wat (アンコール遺跡)
Schloß Neuschwanstein Good ol' Crazy King Ludwig (ノイシュヴァンシュタイン城)
Petra (ペトラ)
Taj Mahal (タージ・マハル)

My last two were hard to pick. I juggled a few; Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, the Moai... but I settled on:

Chichen Itza of the Maya (チチェン・イッツァ)
Timbuktu - the world's first recorded university, and still standing (トンブクトゥ)

ま... でも[stonehenge]ストーンヘンジがいいかな〜 It's not so physically impressive, but it *is* COOL, and, well, mystically wondrous in its own right. I don't know... I still waffle here.

If you don't like my votes, make your own. (^_-) ...and definitely, let me know what you chose!

I'd vote for either the Great Wall or that university in Timbuktu (if for no other reason than Timbuktu should be known for more than just its name).

Oh, and not sure if you like doing the meme thing, but you've been tagged.

Yeah. I think Brazil got a massive campaign out, though, because their statue won.

The Great Wall and Chichen Itza are in too, though.
